The ECDC Report on migration and infectious diseases in the EU is composed of a series of disease-specific documents presenting data analysis, evidence summary, interpretation and guidance on interventions in the field of migration and selected infectious diseases.
This background note complements and introduces the disease-specific reports. It provides an overview of migration and infectious diseases in the EU and a brief summary of issues related to migration and health, and also points out possible areas for future public health research and intervention.
The first disease-specific documents to be published are on HIV/AIDS. Tuberculosis and vaccine preventable diseases (measles) will follow and other diseases will be considered for inclusion in the future. The project also includes an overview of projects related to health and migration/ethnic minorities funded by the European Health Programme 2003–2008.
